Men's Discernment Group Meetings

"Amen, Amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit."

John 12:24

"It seems timely therefore to form ecclesial communities and groups of a size that allows
for true human relationships. This will make it possible to live communion more intensely, ensuring that it is fostered not only ad intra, but also with the parish communities to which such groups belong and with the entire diocesan and universal church."

Pope John Paul II "The Church in America", January 22, 1999

Why a discernment group?

  • To pray together as men who are serious about our universal call to holiness.
  • To share in fellowship and support, as a small Christian community, with others who are   seeking the will of God.
  • To discuss priestly life and ministry in the Church.
  • To engage in thought provoking spiritual and theological conversation.
  • To establish a safe environment for men to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • To provide a means to participate in service and ministerial activities.

Who can be involved?

  • Young adult men who have a desire to know, love, and serve the Lord.

What kind of commitment must I make?

  • You may not be able to make it to all four meetings this semester.
  • We ask that when you are present, you participate fully.
  • We pray that through your active discernment, involvement in this group
will become a priority for you.

Must I be discerning a call to priesthood to join?

  • No, but you must have an openness to wherever God may be calling you in your life.

When and where will the discernment group meet?

  • Friday evenings once a month at Saint Francis Seminary in Milwaukee.
  • The evenings will run from 7 pm to  8:45 pm with social time to follow until 9:30 pm
  • We will meet in St. Francis Seminary Dome
  • The evening is closed in prayer in Christ King Chapel
