Tell us your vocation story.

During high school I developed a personal relationship with Jesus and learned how to really pray. Upon graduation, I was really excited about going to seminary and being a priest. After some discernment I didn’t feel ready to enter the seminary so I decided to just focus on growing in my relationship with God. Eight years went by and during this time I studied and worked in agriculture and healthcare, was a missionary and did some dating. I still wondered at times if I was supposed to be a priest. Finally in prayer I really opened up to God and told him I wanted to do His will whatever that may be. After more prayer and discernment, I realized the only way for me to know if God is calling me to be a priest is to go to seminary. I credit my family, many holy and zealous priests, religious sisters and my friends for forming me into the man of God I am today.

What is the greatest challenge facing a man considering the seminary?

The greatest challenge facing a man considering the seminary is being truly open to God’s will for your life in that He may be calling you to be a priest. This is in prayer but also in regular daily life. The Holy Spirit can give little nudges and invitations to consider priesthood. It’s easy to make excuses on why you think priesthood is not for you. It also takes humility to not worry about what others may think of you. Discernment is praying but it also involves doing something. If you are truly open to God leading your life and think you might be called to be a spiritual father to people, then seminary might be the best place for you to discern.

What is your favorite Psalm verse and why?

Psalm 37:4 “Find your delight in the Lord who will give you your heart’s desire.” I like this one because it reminds me that God is the only one that truly satisfies us in life. When we have a relationship with Jesus and direct our lives towards serving Him and other people, we find joy and fulfillment. He knows us better than we know ourselves.

What are your favorite activities outside of the seminary?

I enjoy cooking, home repair, bike riding, exploring new places, being in nature, caring for the earth, trying new things, being of service to other people and spending time with family and friends.

Where do you like to go pray?

I like to pray anywhere there is adoration going on. It’s quiet and I can just focus on talking and listening to God.

Where do you do your best studying?

At a desk or anywhere it’s quiet with no distractions.

Which saint should people ask to intercede for your vocation?

The Blessed Mother.
