Tell us your vocation story.

I grew up in Jackson WI, a small country town about 45 minutes north of Milwaukee. My family’s home was one of faith and love. My parents from when I was little on always encouraged us to “ask not what you want to do with your life, but rather, what does God want for your life.” It was through that witness that I began to ask the important questions of discernment. Over the years I have had many life experiences that achieved great worldly success. In the world’s eyes I was a “success.” But something deep inside of me was a constant reminder that I wasn’t truly living a life of joy. I haven’t entered the seminary to become a priest. I have entered the seminary to discern the will of almighty God. If He who created me one day calls me to His holy altar, thanks be to God. But I will strive each day to become a better man to live out whatever vocation that might be. Thank you for your generous support; please pray for us. We need your prayers more than ever.

What is the greatest challenge facing a man considering the seminary?

The idea that God doesn’t call the qualified, he qualifies the called. Sometimes it’s hard to get your mind around that.

What is your favorite Psalm verse and why?

Psalm 63:2-9: O God, you are my God—

it is you I seek!

For you my body yearns;

for you my soul thirsts,

In a land parched, lifeless,

and without water.

I look to you in the sanctuary

to see your power and glory.

For your love is better than life;

my lips shall ever praise you!

I will bless you as long as I live;

I will lift up my hands, calling on your name.

My soul shall be sated as with choice food,

with joyous lips my mouth shall praise you!

I think of you upon my bed,

I remember you through the watches of the night

You indeed are my savior,

and in the shadow of your wings I shout for joy.

My soul clings fast to you;

your right hand upholds me.

What are your favorite activities outside of the seminary?

Motorcycles, playing my drums, listening to music, spending time with family and friends.

Where do you like to go pray?

I love to pray in nature. But I would say my favorite place to pray is in a church with architecture specifically rooted in our rich traditions that raises my heart and mind to heaven. The good, the true, and the beautiful.

Where do you do your best studying?

I find my best place to study is in my room or in a place where I can focus on the task at hand.

Which saint should people ask to intercede for your vocation?

Venerable Fulton Sheen, St  Maximilian Kolbe, St John Paul II.
